If you are playing with a keyboard, you can customize which keys are used for every action. To enter the codes, use the "Enter Code" option in the Inventory Chest (in the Altar or when you find one in the Dungeon Floors or after beating a boss). You can enter IR Codes as soon as you complete the tutorial and obtain the Sword of the Necromancer. IR Codes are "passwords" that give you items when entered. You still need a controller each to play with this feature. The game features local co-op, but thanks to Steam Remote Play Together you can play with a friend online. You can use this IR Code to get the Flask of Homunculus that lets you start the co-op mode before beating the first boss. Equip it and enter the dungeon with two connected controllers. Once you return to the Altar (the game's hub area), you will see a flask besides the Inventory Chest. To start playing in co-op mode, you need to beat the first boss. By changing those settings you can even make the game save the floor you last played so you can leave the game whenever you want and then continue from where you were, but you always have to go to the Altar area for the game to save. If you don't like it, you can disable those settings in Game Settings. This is one of the Rogue-lite elements in the game. Why do I lose my items and level when I die? You can do so by using the green teleportation circles that you can find in the dungeon or after defeating a boss.
